Abstract
Crafting Sustainable and Inclusive Built Environments At a time when global warming is part and parcel of our daily lives, as are environmental disasters and inherent poverty, architecture must adapt and drastically transform its constructive habits. This study delves into the social implications of a participatory approach in architecture, aiming to understand its significance and impact. The investigation is motivated by the increasing recognition of the importance of involving users in the creation of their built environment. So how can we effectively reconcile frugality and participation in architectural design to create inclusive, sustainable spaces? With a focus on creating sustainable and inclusive built environments, the study employs a multi-faceted approach encompassing literature reviews, case studies, and project analyses. What’s more, I interviewed the co-founder of an association that carries out participatory projects with local young people through their commitment.. The primary goal is to unravel the principles that underlie the approach and to decipher the challenges and opportunities they present in the context of contemporary design and urban planning. In conclusion, by elucidating principles and applications, this approach seeks to inspire a paradigm shift in architectural practice, emphasizing sustainability, community engagement and the creation of meaningful spaces that meet the needs of diverse communities. It reminds us that architecture can be a catalyst for positive change. It’s time to pursue this vision for a frugal city, where every street, every building and every public space reflects our commitment to a sustainable and inclusive future.
